What's in a name?
There is a personal story behind the name Point7 Advisory.
When my family moved to the United States from Bangladesh, we started over. We left behind a very different life in Dhaka and settled into a small apartment in Allston.
A neighbor encouraged my parents to enroll me in the Head Start program before I began elementary school. I have very fond memories of that time. It was a place of safety, comfort, and joy. It was also where I began learning English and navigating life in a new country.
Many years later, after building a career and life in Silicon Valley and Boston, I enrolled in the General Management Program at Harvard Business School.
During my first few days on campus, I went for a walk and noticed a building nearby that looked familiar. Then I realized what it was. It was the location of the Head Start program I attended as a child.
The moment stopped me.
Head Start is designed to support children from underserved communities. As a child, I never fully understood how little we had when we first arrived. My parents made sure I felt safe and supported, and that made all the difference.
Standing there years later as a student at Harvard Business School, I reflected on how far that journey had taken me.
Later that evening, I looked up the distance between that Head Start building in Allston and the Harvard Business School campus.
It is 0.7 miles.
A very short distance on a map.
But a long journey in reality.
That distance is why I named my company Point7 Advisory.
